Golf courses in East Midlands

Throw the term East Midlands at somebody and it’s just possible that their first response will be ‘East Midlands Airport.’ It’s not a bad airport, but there are certainly far better things to offer in the region for the avid golfer than a travel hub.

Nearly 200 golf courses of quality are scattered around the six counties in the region. The largest county is Lincolnshire, home to 45 golf clubs and a long North Sea coastline that offers some excellent links options.

But perhaps the most famous of all in the county would be Woodhall Spa. It’s been a regular entry in the top 100 courses and is now home to the England Golf.

Two courses are at the club and open to all, with the more famous being the Hotchkin course. There’s a fine challenge waiting if you fancy tackling the brutal bunkers amongst the heathland.

The East Midlands Airport has Derby and Nottingham 13 miles either side, so transport links to the area are good.

If you fancy a change of pace (and decibels!), Donington Park hosts motorsport events almost every weekend from March through to October, or a 40 minute drive from Derby can satisfy the adrenaline junkie in you at Alton Towers, so there are plenty of options to complement your East Midlands golfing trip.
