1. Hollinwell Golf Club

Settled into the rolling hills of North Nottinghamshire, half an hour from Nottingham is Hollinwell Golf Club, a beautiful example of a heathland-style course. 

This 18-hole course, set on free draining sandstone, is playable almost year-round. The fairways use the natural landscape of hills and forest to create the perfect setting to play golf.  Each of the holes present a nice unique challenge for all golfers.

Having been used as an Open Qualifying course Hollinwell has a big reputation as one of the best golf clubs in the East Midlands. It also features in England’s top 100!

2. Wollaton Park Golf Club

About 11 minutes from Nottingham is the lovely Wollaton Park Golf Club. 

An 18-hole course made up of smooth, rolling greens and pretty surrounding views, Wollaton is popular for those looking for a scenic game. 

The parkland-style layout is well-kept and mature, and the 500 acres of Wollaton Park that it inhabits have a perfect view of Wollaton Hall through the trees along the course.

3. The Nottinghamshire

Noted as one of the best courses in the Midlands, The Nottinghamshire is in the heart of the Nottinghamshire countryside, roughly 17 minutes from Nottingham city centre. 

The most impressive bit about this place is that it holds two incredibly designed 18-hole courses.

The Championship Course is a true parkland course, with the front nine built around the impressive lake which is ready to catch any stray shots. 

The Signature course was originally built as a 9-hole course, but was extended in 1997 by Peter Allis. Much work has been done over the years to remodel the course, with new tees, greens and water features having been added. 

The result is that The Nottinghamshire now owns not one, but two layouts that compete with some of the best in the area.

4. Beeston Fields Golf Club

An 18-hole parkland course, Beeston Fields Golf Club has been around for about 100 years to delight golfers of all levels. 

Reaching 6.430 yards from the back tees, the course is perfectly lined with trees and other flora, and it has bunkers and traps galore to keep players on their toes. 

Topped with its undulating and easy-running greens, it represents a stern, but fair challenge. 

5. Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club

If you travel 20 minutes from Nottingham, you will find Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club. 

The 18 holes that make up this course are each uniquely special, and the fairways are tightly designed. 

With raised greens and bunkers, along with plenty of trees lining the fairway, this course makes for a solid game for any player.

6. Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club

An 18-hole parkland course, Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club has been delighting golfers for over a century. 

The golf club is situated about 16 minutes from Nottingham, with a gorgeous view of the Vale of Belvoir and the castle.

The layout of the course has a tight design thanks to the fairways which are lined with tons of trees. And with a grand finale of difficulty on the last 3 holes, a good score is never in the bag until your last putt is holed on the 18th.

7. Oakmere Park Golf Club

Located in between Nottingham and Mansfield is Oakmere Park Golf Club. 

This golf club is home to 3 heathland-style courses: The Admirals Course (18 holes), the Commanders Course (9 holes), and The Captains Course (9 holes). 

Each course has rolling greens, scattered natural and man-made hazards. They all feature excellent views to appreciate as you navigate around the course. 

Don’t get too caught up admiring the sights though! With fairways lined with trees and other plant life, there are plenty of challenges to catch any golfer out.

8. Coxmoor Golf Club

A little over half an hour from Nottingham, Coxmoor Golf Club is another heathland course made up of 18 holes. 

Filled with heather, undulating greens, and a variety of traps to play around, Coxmoor is a classic heathland design that heathland lovers will cherish. Sitting on a plateau, the course also offers lovely panoramic views as you play through. 

The most challenging holes here are the 5^th and the 12^th, which are almost impossible to hit perfectly on windy days. Golfers of all handicaps will need focus to have a good game here!
