1. Abbeydale Golf Club

If you take a short 18-minute drive from the centre of Sheffield, you’ll find yourself at the beautiful Abbeydale Golf Club.
This parkland-style course is well-known for being perfectly maintained and manicured, with all 18 holes giving just enough of a challenge for players of all levels a chance to enjoy the game.
The course is made up of rolling greens and is set on the Beauchief Estate, so the surroundings are filled with stunning views anywhere you turn as you play.
2. Hallamshire Golf Club

Between Sheffield and the Peak District National Park sits Hallamshire Golf Club.
This heathland course is only 15 minutes from Sheffield city centre and boasts a very classic yet challenging 18-hole layout.
With fast-running, hand-cut greens, and great drainage, this course is considered one of the best in North England (it features in the Top 100 courses under £60 list).
There’s plenty of woodland and grassland vegetation that come into play, placing a premium on accuracy around this track.
3. Lindrick Golf Club

About half an hour from Sheffield is Lindrick Golf Club, a picturesque course that feels like a blend of heathland and moorland styles.
An 18-hole course filled with firm and fast greens, plenty of bunkers, and vegetation-lined fairways, this course provides an enjoyable challenge at each turn.
The course also holds a place in golfing history as one of the UK golf courses to host the Ryder Cup, hosting the biannual tournament in 1957 Ryder!
4. Hillsborough Golf Club

Just 17 minutes outside of Sheffield is a hilly parkland course at the Hillsborough Golf Club.
While playing, you’ll get a gorgeous panoramic view of the surrounding areas. All 18 holes will vary in difficulty, from the tough opening hole to more picturesque and short holes.
The club is known for keeping well-maintained, undulating greens. But the winds are out of the club’s control, so if it’s blowing, expect a challenge on your hands!
5. Rotherham Golf Club

For over a century, Rotherham Golf Club has been recognised as one of the best golf courses in the area.
Located about half an hour outside of Sheffield, this parkland-style course is spread across the gorgeous grounds of Thrybergh Park. The rolling greens are well-kept and lined with trees.
At 6,378, it’s not the longest course in the area but that certainly doesn’t make it an easy one! You’ll need to have patience and a little bit of skill for a perfect game here, but you’re guaranteed to enjoy your time either way.
6. Wortley Golf Club

For something that feels like you’re far from the bustle of the city, Wortley Golf Club is an ideal place to go that’s hidden away.
About half an hour from Sheffield city centre, this 18-hole course is 125 years old and gives a mature, dramatic woodland feel with the natural beauty and roaming wildlife.
The rolling fairways are kept in great shape and each hole will provide golfers with unique challenges.
7. Stocksbridge Golf Club
📌 30 Royd Ln, Deepcar, Sheffield S36 2RZ

An 18-hole heathland course, Stocksbridge Golf Club is about half an hour from Sheffield city centre.
While a shorter course, it’s certainly not an easy course. It features rolling greens, plenty of rough areas and hazards, and plenty of plant life.
There are also a few blind shots to navigate. Fairly undulating, this course comes with several uphill shots and will require your full attention as you navigate it.
Just remember to enjoy the scenery between your shots!
8. Doncaster Town Moor Golf Club

A little over half an hour from Sheffield lies the beautiful Doncaster Town Moor Golf Club. This heathland course has some wonderful scenery and great drainage for year-round play on its 18 holes.
One of the smallest courses in this area, it’s also considered one of the most difficult with all of its tricky shots and hazards. It certainly places a premium on accuracy as you have to navigate through the tight spaces.
The greens are always kept in good condition by the greens-keepers, so they always run smoothly.
