Alicante, a historic Mediterranean port, is not only known for its captivating beaches and monumental architecture but also stands out as a haven for golfers. 

I’m lucky enough to have a friend with a place out there, so I have been able to play golf in the area a number of times. 

After several years of visiting Alicante to play golf, the courses below would rank as my favourite. 

The best golf courses in Alicante

1. Lo Romero Golf

Lo Romero, fondly called the “golf island,” is a magnificent 18-hole course. Each time I’ve played this course, the fairways and greens have been well maintained. 

The design promises an extensive and enriching round of golf that will test all the clubs in your bag!

The final 18th hole, an island hole (where the course gets its name), is a crowning feature, providing a memorable and challenging finish to a day of golf.

2. Las Ramblas Golf

Nestled within a beautiful landscape, Las Ramblas Golf isn’t the longest course but is characterised by its narrow fairways and challenging greens. .

The course’s terrain is unique, integrating natural ravines and elevations, adding to both the challenge and the scenic beauty. It’s a true test of skill and precision for every golfer

3. La Sella Golf

La Sella Golf, located near the Montgó Natural Park, offers 27 holes of golfing pleasure. 

Surrounded by Mediterranean woodland and mountains, it provides an idyllic backdrop for a peaceful golfing experience.

The 27 holes are split into 3 loops of 9 holes. The “Llebeig”, is characterised by beautiful pine trees and impressive views of the Montgó. The “Gregal” is a flatter 9-hole stretch with  water hazards to navigate. Finally the “Mestral” 9  is the most elevated loop, providing remarkable sea views.

4. Alicante Golf Club

This Seve Ballesteros-designed 18-hole course is a paradise for golfers seeking diversity and challenge. It’s certainly a course he would have enjoyed playing!

Alicante Golf Club is an oasis in the middle of the city, featuring a unique design with plenty of water features that heighten the challenge and aesthetic appeal.

5. Bonalba Golf

Bonalba Golf Resort in Alicante

Rising above the stunning Mediterranean coast in Mutxamel (north of Alicante), Bonalba Golf provides 18 holes of pure golfing delight. 

The course offers a distinctive layout with multiple lakes and a rich variety of trees, adding to its beauty and complexity. It’s certainly not the type of course where you hit the driver off every tee!

It’s designed to entertain both beginners and experienced golfers.

6. El Plantío Golf

Located between Alicante centre and the airport, El Plantío Golf is a welcoming retreat for all golf enthusiasts. 

It’s a golf resort that offers two courses (an 18-hole Championship course and a 9-hole par-3 course), catering to all levels of golfers.

With its lush, undulating landscapes and abundant vegetation, it provides a tranquil and scenic environment for the perfect round of golf.

7. Alenda Golf

Alenda Golf offers an exquisite 18-hole course just 20 minutes outside of the centre of Alicante. 

The par 72 18-hole course measures in at 6,842 yards and is well-balanced, ensuring that every golfer, irrespective of their expertise, has an enjoyable, challenging game. The final nine holes are particularly scenic, providing breathtaking views!

The course has been recognised as one of the best in Spain, hosting many Spanish Federation tournaments and even DP Tour Qualifying School.

8. Font del Llop Golf

Font del Llop Golf is synonymous with tranquillity and excellence. The 18-hole course is beautifully embedded in the natural landscape. 

The layout follows the contours of a local river and is surrounded by vineyards, almond trees and ancient olive trees, making it the perfect setting for a round of golf.

The design of the course itself is somewhat American with Scottish moulding, adding a unique dimension to the round.
