Course overview
Set in stunning countryside with oak-lined undulating fairways and picturesque views, Retford Golf Club is one of Nottinghamshires golfing gems.
The club dates back to 1920 when Tom Williamson (who has designed over 60 courses in the UK) initially laid out a 9 hole course. In 1990 an additional 9 holes were added to give the layout as it is today.
The course has four tee options, with the longest measuring at 6,188 yards down to 5,489 yards from the reds. The unique setting means both the front and back nine offer a mixture of holes. There are both parkland style tree-lined fairways and more open holes to give a different challenge.
Primarily the course rewards accuracy. A number of carefully positioned bunkers are there to catch you out, as are the subtle borrows on the greens. The round is capped off with a variety of risk/reward holes that give you a chance to score well.
But regardless of your standard of golf, Retford is a course to be enjoyed all year round. It also has a reputation of looking after visitors extremely well and being one of the friendliest clubs for both golf societies and casual players.
They also offer excellent catering and hospitality to compliment the golf, so it’s well worth staying behind for a bite to eat.
