One of the best in Bedfordshire
Regarded by many as a Top 3 course in Bedfordshire and one that I've been trying to get my clubs into for months, as I'd heard many great things about it.

I managed to find a couple of twilight hours free earlier this week, so I jumped in the motor and drove the 25 minutes across Bedfordshire (and almost into Buckinghamshire) to play this short but brutal course.

I faired well, equally my best ever score and doing so in a remarkable sub 2 hours despite a very small hold up in the pace of play at the 9th tee. That said the 4-ball that were ahead of me duly obliged and let me play straight through their tee-shots. Can't say fairer than that... for what it's worth I ALWAYS knock a hybrid off the tee when I'm being let-through or called up on longer holes... Too many times have I hit a driver and then had to search for my ball which is both embarrassing and annoying to others.

For me the toughest hole was probably the 8th, a long Par 5, which is first half flat and second half entirely up a very steep bank. I managed to get onto the green for 3 which I was very pleased with, only to 3 putt, less pleased!

If you haven't played this course, it's one I'll certainly be returning to with friends and it's definitely a contender for the Top 10 and probably the Top 5 of the courses in this county.

Its a well established course with thought through positioning of tee boxes, hazards and routing. The course is quite compact, although the holes are well constructed and varied, a little shorter than many others with a couple of challenging pedestrian routes from the ninth green to the tenth tee and the walk to the 18th tee box feeling a little dangerous.

Mostly beautiful tree lined fairways, interspersed with a few water features, generally well kept overall. Disappointing to get the back drop of residential housing on some holes but this is very common in modern suburban golf.

The fairways were in good condition, well cut, not too long, not too short. Although I did find quite a few divots which had not been replaced by other golfers. There were no divot bags available which I think is a must for every golf course. The greens ran superbly well and were pretty fast without being ridiculous. Visible signs of fairly recent spiking, which despite being present didn't disturb the roll of the ball.

A great mixture of hazards, all well kept and not over complicated. I played in the summer and some of the lateral water hazards were drying up, which, again would make the course that little bit harder were the trenches full of water. I suspect in winter it would drain well however and provide an extra challenge.
The bunkers were well positioned, filled with decent sand and well raked along with ponds/lakes which were imposing enough to make you want to avoid them, whilst not being too tough to miss.

A decent clubhouse and general facilities, although nothing major to write home about, the balcony from the bar overlooking the 1st and 10th tee as well as the 18th green is a nice touch.
