Course overview
The Dorset Golf & Country Club is a 27 hole championship golf venue located in the Dorset countryside, near Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage. The venue is surrounded by the Purbeck Hills and rolling heathland, with an abundance of wildlife. A truly wonderful place to play, the grounds nearby are designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the biodiversity.
The course itself was designed by Martin Hawtree who has Trump International Scotland on his CV. He also consults for the R&A and has had input into re-works to Royal Birkdale Golf Club and St Andrews to name a few!
Given the resume, the courses at “The Dorset” have a pedigree that is undeniable, seen in the three loops of 9-holes. They all share a similar style with tricky clover-shaped bunkers and large and deceptive undulating greens made to USGA specifications.
The Lakeland & Parkland nines are the longest of the three loops (reaching over 7,000 yards from the Championship tess), with water coming into play on over half of the holes! The Woodland Course, which carves through a Rhododendron Forest is a little shorter.
