You might find it hard to find another soul in some of the more remote areas of the Scottish Highlands, unless you fancy challenging Nessie and a friend to a fourball. But part of the charm of the Highlands is the incredible natural tranquility and the remote beauty around you. That’s why some of the world’s must-play courses are here.
Royal Dornoch is often seen as one of the most popular, with its championship course housing some harsh bunkers that beckon you as you approach some of the raised greens. Nairn is another popular choice and a regular feature on top 100 lists. With its proximity to the sea, you’re as likely to find an ice-cream van as you are the fairways if you’re inclined to slice one off the tee.
The area may be remote, but that’s all part of its charm, as is the warm welcome from the locals. So with nearly 100 courses scattered around the region, there are far worse options than packing up the car and heading north to a links golfing break in the beauty of the Scottish Highlands & Islands.
