Course overview
Dating back more than 600 years, the Old Course of St Andrews has provided some of the most iconic images in the game’s history. Who can forget the fist-pumps of the much missed Seve Ballesteros as he claimed victory in one of 29 Open Championships the course has hosted?
It’s a challenge to get a round here, but the club are proud of their attempts to remain accessible. A ballot system attempts to accommodate the general public, or there’s the consolation of a guided walk around the famous opening and closing holes to keep your thirst for golfing history satisfied. If you do play, you’ll feel like you know the course already, finishing with arguably one of the toughest holes in the golfing world. Driving past the Old Course Hotel, the road and Road Bunker await, but you will join the list of the world’s finest if you fall into these traps.
St Andrews itself is a welcoming cultural town on Scotland’s east coast. Views are spectacular, the town is lively and justifiably proud of its heritage. Regardless of how your skills take to the Old Course, a trip to St Andrews is a pilgrimage to top any golfer’s bucket list.
