Course overview

Lewes Golf Club was established in 1896 upon the chalk hill in Sussex, guaranteeing stunning scenery and picturesque views of  South Downs. On a clear day you can even see as far as North Downs which tells you how elevated the course sits. Up here you're also suspect to some high winds which can make for a testing game and even if the wind isn't blowing, the sloping fairways and chalk soil turf will test your ball striking. Due to its prime location, the course is pretty much playable all year round and with excellent facilitates including a small covered driving range and short game practice area, you've got no excuses to get out and practice.

Lewes Golf Club
Lewes Golf Club is a fantastic course situated within the South Downs National Park, up on top of the hills directly overlooking Lewes, providing a fun, yet challenging round.

Offering fantastic views across the South Downs and the Weald (even on a cloudy day!), with well kept, fast and interesting green complexes, Lewes Golf Club is a course that is not only very attractive to the eye, but also one that has plenty of bite and will punish you for hitting bad shots. Not the longest of courses, playing only approximately 5900 yards from the Men's (Yellow) tees, there are plenty of opportunities for scoring, but lots of hilly lies will test the average club golfer.

When I played (for the 3rd time) last Saturday afternoon, the twilight rate when booked online was only £15, which represents fantastic value considering the wonderful condition the course was in.

Whilst there is quite a lot of choice for Downland golf in the area, not many come close to Lewes Golf Club in terms of the views, the challenge, and also the value. The 19th hole is also well stocked with the very locally brewed Harvey's Sussex Best to fully round off the Lewes experience!

Well worth a try if you have not done so already, but playing on a calm day would be recommended as the course can be quite exposed to the weather!
