Golf courses in Merseyside

Merseyside is a county in the North West of England, encompassing the metropolitan areas centred on both banks of the Mersey Estuary.

The county is a mixture of high density urban areas and rural suburbs, with the main population residing in Liverpool. It also has a fairly large coastline on the Irish Sea, which is probably what will interest golfers the most as this area of Merseyside makes the county a true links-lovers golfing destination.

The county is packed with some of the best links courses in the country, if not the world! The two Open Championship courses Royal Birkdale and Royal Liverpool alongside incredible links courses Hillside and Formby are probably the pick of the bunch.

Most of the world’s best players have graced these fairways offering you a chance to follow in the footsteps of some of the best players in history.

The standard doesn’t drop there though. Southport and Ainsdale, Formby Hall and West Lancs are all neighbouring courses within a stone’s throw away that can give these or any links course a run for their money.

They all form part of England’s “Golf Coast”, which together with courses a little further north in Lancashire, makes this coastline one of the best places to play golf in the world!

Within a 30 mile stretch, you have access to 12 of the best courses in Britain, 7 of them make the UK & Ireland Top 100 list, 8 in England’s Top 100 and three of them are on the current Open Championship Rota. It doesn’t get much better than that!

You are truly spoilt for choice here, so the best advice is to stay here as long as possible and play them all!
